'I'm not putting all my eggs in the NRL basket for him': Trent Robinson spills the beans on his plans for Mark Nawaqanitawase as the Roosters strive for an early release

In a twist of fate, as the Roosters confirm surgery for one of their key players, a former Wallabies sensation could be donning their colors as soon as this month.

However, the road to his NRL debut may be a long and winding one.

According to reports from news.com.au, Roosters head honcho Trent Robinson is aiming to bring Mark Nawaqanitawase into the fold by the end of the month.

The rugby union star is anticipated to represent Australia in the Olympics before making the switch to league, following an early release.

Nawaqanitawase put pen to paper on a two-year deal last December, slated to kick off in 2025.

But with his omission from the Wallabies squad for the upcoming Tests, there is a push to expedite his transition to the Roosters camp for a taste of league action this season.

As the Roosters grapple with injuries and suspensions among their star outside backs, the latest blow being Joseph Manu's broken hand from the recent showdown against the Wests Tigers, the need for reinforcements is greater than ever.

The confirmation of Manu's surgery following two fractures in his left hand means he will be sidelined for at least a month.

Robinson revealed plans to secure Nawaqanitawase's services for the remainder of the season ahead of Monday's deadline, albeit with a delayed entry in late July post the sevens program in Paris.

If all goes according to plan, Robinson stressed the importance of giving his prized recruit ample time to acclimate to the nuances of rugby league.

Nawaqanitawase is likely to be honing his skills in the NSW Cup, where the Roosters currently languish near the bottom of the ladder.
