The rugby league community was left in disbelief on Tuesday morning after NSW Blues coach Laurie Daley confirmed that Haumole Olakau'atu would not be participating in Game 2 of the 2026 State of Origin series.
Not only was he removed from the starting lineup, but he was also completely dropped from the team, now listed among the extended reserves.
This decision comes despite the Blues' triumph in Game 1 and Olakau'atu's impressive performance against the South Sydney Rabbitohs, leading many to believe he would keep his spot.
The unexpected announcement ignited discussions among fans and analysts regarding the motivations behind his removal.
"There's been a number of theories discussed today because this is a significant call because you win an Origin game and Loz decides to drop his starting back-rower," remarked Code Sports reporter David Riccio on NRL 360.
