William Kennedy has addressed the buzz around his future with the Cronulla Sharks following his recent contract extension.
The talented player from Bathurst has showcased impressive form over the last two years, yet a delay in announcing his new contract sparked discussions about his future in the game, particularly given his readiness to secure a spot in any top-tier team.
Kennedy initially signed a one-year extension for the 2026 season last October, and he has now committed for an additional year, keeping various long-term options open.
"It's good to get it all done and sorted and then just focus on my footy. I can't thank the club enough for giving me another year," he shared with NewsWire.
"I was used to it (the contract questions) and then had it last year as well, so I think I was getting a bit used to it. It didn't bother me at all. It's just good to have it done and then just keep going with footy."
As he is able to negotiate for a 2028 contract starting this November, Kennedy remains focused on the upcoming season. Any decision regarding a longer-term deal will also involve input from his family.
There are ongoing rumors suggesting that the PNG Chiefs may show interest in signing Kennedy, who could become a part of their inaugural plans in five months.
"I think everyone would want more than one year, especially just having that security for my young family as well," he noted.
"I think it was just the best option for my family. I want to do what's right off the field as well and then repay it in footy as well."
