Roosters secure 'greatest win'
A Friday night to savour in Round 2 with monster crowds guaranteed as the Warriors and Roosters bounced back from Round 1 defeats.
A desperate Daniel Tupou tackle has ensured the Roosters held on for a stunning 38-32 upset victory over the Panthers at CommBank Stadium, while the Warriors thumped an injury hit Manly 36-16 at GoMedia Stadium.
Few gave the Roosters a chance heading into the game after a 50-14 drubbing to the Broncos last weekend and there were concerning signs early when Paul Alamoti strolled through to open the scoring for Penrith.
Trent Robinson's men, however, were up for the fight and quickly hit back through tries to Mark Nawaqanitawase and Connor Watson.
A see-sawing first half followed, with Liam Henry scoring in the 38th minute to make it 18-18 at the break.
Each time Penrith looked to gain the ascendency, the Roosters hit back and they managed to keep their noses in front before breaking the game open with two tries in three minutes to jump out to a 34-24 lead.
A 71st-minute Dom Young try looked to have sealed the upset, the English winger crossing in the corner in what appeared to put the result beyond doubt.
Penrith, however, came home with a wet sail and had one last set of six in the final minute to force golden point.
