Melbourne Storm forward Tui Kamikamica faces a significant challenge in his recovery following a stroke, which has jeopardized his chances of returning to the NRL.
This year, the NRL community united to rally behind Kamikamica after he was hospitalized due to the stroke.
As one of Fiji's greatest players and a key figure in the Melbourne Storm's success, he initially expressed optimism about his return to the field.
While the Storm organization has been supportive throughout his ordeal, they have also approached his comeback cautiously. In April, Kamikamica proclaimed his desire to play professionally again.
However, it appears that the Storm are unlikely to extend his contract beyond this season, as he signed a one-year extension late in the process, mere months before his existing deal ended in 2025.
This extension provided him a brief opportunity, but should he make a return, it seems it won't be with Melbourne. There has been interest from English Super League clubs regarding his potential recruitment.
Kamikamica is also eager to represent Fiji in the upcoming Rugby League World Cup, scheduled for October and November in Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea, though this ambition seems increasingly out of reach.
At 32 years old, the Fijian has made 142 appearances for the Storm since debuting in 2017, alongside playing 22 Tests for Fiji, with his first international cap earned in 2016 before joining the NRL.
