The NRL has put their foot down and refused to let Latrell Mitchell serve his suspension, despite South Sydney's attempts to find a way around it.

The League's big boss, Andrew Abdo, has made it clear that there's no sneaky loophole to exploit in this situation.

Mitchell was hit with a one-game ban for his controversial actions that brought the game into disrepute, but South Sydney wanted him back on the field for their final round clash.

However, he needed to be given the all-clear by the Rabbitohs' medical team in order to serve the ban.

Despite three different doctors giving evidence that Mitchell was fit to play, it seems the NRL was not convinced.

Just two weeks ago, interim coach Ben Hornby had already ruled Mitchell out for the season, adding another layer of drama to the situation.

Even on Tuesday, Mitchell could only watch from the sidelines, confined to the exercise bike.

In a classic move, Abdo shut down any talk of a loophole and made it clear that the NRL would carefully consider the medical evidence presented by Souths.

It looks like Mitchell won't be making a comeback just yet, leaving fans and the team disappointed.
