The conversation surrounding the future of the State of Origin is undeniable.
On Thursday night, Hayden Watson took center stage in the U19 State of Origin, leading the Queensland Maroons to a 28-12 victory against the NSW Blues.
Last year, Watson played a supporting role off the bench in the Maroons' 14 jersey; this season, however, he was elevated to a starting role at halfback, showcasing his potential as a future star.
Acknowledged as 'Player of the Match,' Watson's impressive junior career is well-known, yet some still questioned which club had nurtured such a remarkable talent.
Naturally, he is part of the Melbourne Storm.
This year, Watson contributed to the Storm's SG ball squad and debuted in the NSW Cup from the bench in Round 10.
Since that debut, he has made two more appearances, including a standout performance starting at halfback in Round 13, where he scored twice in a 60-6 loss against the Roosters.
Last night, Watson demonstrated his club-level skills on the representative stage, reaffirming his commitment to the Storm through 2030.
Watson exhibited exceptional skill, scoring a try, assisting another, making nine runs for 98 meters, achieving nine tackle busts, and executing two line breaks.
The halfback's assist was converted by fellow Storm player Alize Clarke, who also contributed with another try assist, a line break, and six tackle busts.
An additional standout for the Maroons was Tupou Francis, one of three forwards who played beyond their age group.
