The Sea Eagles have slammed reports suggesting they pressured Tom Trbojevic to take a pay cut, with coach Anthony Seibold stepping up to defend the star fullback.

The suggestion that Trbojevic was urged to sacrifice a portion of his salary to make up for missed games due to injury has been met with skepticism within the rugby league community.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Trbojevic had offered to forego $750,000 over the next two seasons as a way to support the club he loves.

His teammates were not surprised by his selfless gesture, as the local junior has always been known for his dedication to the team.

Trbojevic explained, "I spoke with Seibs and the management team here about it.

We considered a few options, but ultimately it didn't come to fruition." However, what was intended as a noble act has been met with doubt from those who believe the club orchestrated the move to free up funds for other players.

The NRL quickly put a stop to the salary sacrifice, much to Seibold's frustration.

The coach is particularly irked by the questioning of Trbojevic's character, especially as the star player has worked hard to return to form following a recent hamstring injury.

"It's disappointing to see 'Turbo's' integrity and that of the club called into question," Seibold said defiantly.

The Sea Eagles are adamant that the claims are unfounded, and they stand by their player and the values he represents on and off the field.
