In a move reminiscent of a seasoned quarterback orchestrating a pivotal play, Canberra Raiders halfback Jamal Fogarty has decided to press pause on contract talks as coach Ricky Stuart contemplates the team's future.
With a contract option looming that could secure his place with the Raiders for the 2026 season, the 31-year-old playmaker is focused on showcasing his skills during pre-season training.
Drawing inspiration from the enduring careers of players like Daly Cherry-Evans, Fogarty remains open to the possibility of extending his time on the field.
"I've told Sticky (Stuart) that I'm shifting into neutral, giving my all in pre-season, and letting my performance do the talking before revisiting contract discussions with the club," Fogarty explained in an interview with The Courier Mail.
Expressing his desire to continue playing in the NRL for as long as possible, Fogarty hopes that his journey will continue in the nation's capital.
"I'm eager for the opportunity to wear the green jersey for years to come, but ultimately, it's in the hands of the club.
Fingers crossed for a positive outcome by Round Six," he added.
