John Bateman Returns to Bradford Bulls
English international John Bateman is set to make a significant comeback, signing a two-year contract with the Bradford Bulls, which includes an option for an additional season.
Bateman's journey began with the Bulls when he debuted at just 17 in 2011, rising through the club's youth ranks and showcasing his exceptional talent until 2013.
With 31 caps for Great Britain, Bateman stands out as one of the rare English players to thrive in the NRL, notably during his two seasons with the Canberra Raiders from 2019, which culminated in a Grand Final appearance.
Though he later played for the Wests Tigers and North Queensland Cowboys, he was unable to replicate the success he found in Australia's capital.
Now, he is set to return to his roots in 2027.
"It is pretty surreal, this is something I've wanted to do in my career but in the back of my mind I didn't think I would get the chance," Bateman remarked in a statement. "When Bradford got promoted back to Super League, coming back was something I wanted to make happen and having spoken to Jason and Kurt over the last few months, it made the decision a lot easier and now to have got it over the line in the last couple of days is a great feeling."
He added, "It gives me goosebumps thinking about running back out at Bartercard Odsal... I am just excited to be a part of the project that Kurt and Jason are building."
Bateman expressed his intent to share his experience with younger teammates, stating, "Emotion aside, first and foremost I am a winner and that's why I've come back. I want to win games..."
Bulls head coach Kurt Haggerty echoed Bateman's enthusiasm, emphasizing the value he brings to the club.
