Luke Metcalf's return to the field coincided with a stunning 28-12 victory for the New Zealand Warriors against the Penrith Panthers.
Despite Te Maire Martin battling a hamstring issue earlier in the week, coach Andrew Webster confirmed that Metcalf did not engage in any attacking training ahead of the game.
Before this matchup, Metcalf had not played in the halves for first grade since Round 5, where he suffered a hamstring strain against the Cronulla Sharks, a stint of 125 days off the field.
In a standout performance, the future Dragons halfback tallied two tries and an impressive 562 kicking meters, showcasing his skills on Friday night.
Following the match, Webster expressed his pride in the team's performance, stating, "(I'm) really proud of the boys tonight."
He acknowledged, "I thought we played well for about 70 minutes; there was a 10-minute period where we lost the way."
Webster highlighted a key moment, saying, "The proudest bit was when we dropped the ball, we didn't get the ball back for three sets on the line; we forced an error and got it back."
With Metcalf's impressive display, questions arose regarding the future of the halves, but the Warriors coach remained tight-lipped, remarking that he had "no opinion on that at all."
