The Perth Bears have been granted significant salary cap enhancements as they gear up for their first season.
Although the club has secured 26 players, there are serious concerns regarding the caliber of their roster, especially since many of the recruits are not consistent first-grade competitors in the NRL or the English Super League.

Issues concerning the club's competitiveness, along with the challenges posed by travel for away matches and the impending entry of Papua New Guinea, which boasts tax-free financial advantages as they join the league in 2028, have made the situation quite challenging for the NRL's newest team.
Despite this, Mal Meninga remains optimistic that he has assembled a competitive squad, though the broader perspective appears much less favorable.
On Friday, as the Bears unveiled their inaugural home jersey for the upcoming year, it was disclosed that the NRL, ARLC, and 17 other clubs have approved a set of salary cap concessions.
According to a report from the Sydney Morning Herald, the Bears will be permitted a 20 percent marquee player allowance, which will be funded by a current club sponsor and will not count against the salary cap.
This provision effectively allows the Bears to operate with a larger salary cap compared to competing teams, potentially persuading players to join.
For instance, a player with a salary of $800,000 annually could now receive an offer of approximately $960,000, thanks to the existing sponsor covering the difference.
