Canberra Raiders centre Sebastian Kris is on the brink of a club switch as the New Zealand Warriors pursue his signature.
Presently, Kris is expected to be off-contract at the conclusion of the 2027 NRL season, allowing him to negotiate with rival teams beginning November 1.
News Corp has reported that the versatile outside-back, capable of playing both wing and centre, may leave at the end of this season if he secures another deal.
The Warriors have already added Will Warbrick for next season, joining Alofiana Khan-Pereira and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak in the competition for wing positions, while Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Adam Pompey, and Ali Leiataua are options at centre, with Grant Anderson also providing utility depth.
Although Auckland is set to lose Rocco Berry to the Melbourne Storm after this season, his absence may not significantly ease the competition for playing time, considering he hasn't recorded any top-grade appearances this season due to injury recovery.
Additionally, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is confirmed to join the English Super League to conclude his career starting in 2027, following his ACL injury.
Kris, once a New Zealand international, has seen his standing diminish this year at both centre and wing under Ricky Stuart, with his current salary making it untenable for him to remain a reserve.
Originally from Brisbane but with New Zealand roots, moving to Auckland might entice Kris, especially with a possible 20th NRL team on the horizon for Christchurch in 2029.
As a veteran with 129 games, he could offer substantial experience to the Warriors, despite not being an immediate first-grade fit.
While the Raiders would not suffer greatly from Kris's departure, Matthew Timoko's status for 2027 remains uncertain as his contract options are also pending.
