Thank You to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital

Statement from Broncos' Chief Medical Officer, Dr Matt Hislop regarding Deine Mariner

Broncos' Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Matt Hislop, expressed gratitude for the care provided by the staff at Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Hospital during a critical incident involving Deine Mariner.

Dr. Hislop emphasized the importance of sharing a timeline regarding the progression of a rare injury, with Mariner's consent to disclose details.

During the Roosters game, Deine suffered a significant cork injury to his right quad, receiving immediate assessment and treatment before he demonstrated the ability to run.

He maintained mobility and returned to play with 15 minutes remaining in the match.

However, by midnight, his quad had swelled, yet he was deemed clinically stable, able to enjoy dinner before resting.

At 1:30 AM, Dr. Hislop noted that Deine's condition had worsened, with significant pain and tightness in the thigh.

An ultrasound was conducted in hopes of draining a hematoma, but the swelling was found to be diffused within the muscle.

Fortunately, Deine retained functioning nerves and arteries, but acute compartment syndrome was suspected, necessitating an ambulance call.
