Off-contract Canberra Raiders player Tom Starling has expressed his lack of concern over the club signing Jayden Brailey for the 2026 NRL season.
Brailey, who was not wanted by the Newcastle Knights, made the decision to move to Canberra despite his off-contract status.
The Raiders have Owen Pattie lined up as their future dummy half, leaving Starling and Danny Levi, both off-contract at the end of this year, likely out of favor for next season.
The club may consider retaining one of the duo in their Top 30 squad, but this could result in the player ending up in reserve grade.
In response to Brailey's signing, Starling remains unfazed.
He told The Canberra Times, "I'm not worried about the competition for spots.
It's part of footy.
I can only control what I do and how I prepare myself.
If Jayden comes in, I will help him as much as I can and challenge him too.
We need competition for spots."
Starling, who has been a key player for the Raiders, understands the business side of the sport and remains focused on his own performance.
He mentioned, "I'll wait and see what happens with my future.
I am off contract, but I'm just focused on playing good footy.
If I do that, everything else will take care of itself."
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future at the club, Starling's commitment to his performance and mindset of embracing competition show his determination to continue making a valuable contribution.
His mature and professional approach to the situation reflects his understanding of the realities of professional sports.
As he navigates the changes brought about by Brailey's signing, Starling remains focused on giving his best on the field and letting the rest fall into place.
