Coby Black Leaves Broncos for Raiders

Coby Black, a teenage halfback, has taken the Brisbane Broncos by surprise by announcing his plans to leave the club at the end of next season in pursuit of his NRL goals with the Canberra Raiders, as reported by News Corp.

The 19-year-old has been viewed as a potential successor to Adam Reynolds at Red Hill and is set to join Ricky Stuart's Raiders beginning in 2027, following his free agency status becoming official on November 1.

This decision comes as Canberra aims to bolster its halfback options after losing Jamal Fogarty to Manly.

According to News Corp, the Broncos were informed of Black's decision late on Monday night.

Recently, the Broncos made headlines by signing Jonah Pezet from Melbourne to join in 2027, a move that is believed to have influenced Black's choice to seek other avenues.

As Black approaches his 20th birthday in March, he was anticipated to be Brisbane's long-term No. 7. However, the arrival of Pezet, as well as the recruitment of young talent Tom Duffy from the Cowboys, has heightened competition for that position.

Black is eager to continue his growth under the guidance of Ricky Stuart.
