Moses Mbye Announces Retirement from Rugby League

Former NRL player Moses Mbye has officially announced his retirement from rugby league, concluding a remarkable 13-year journey since his debut in the NRL.

With over 260 games under his belt in both the NRL and Super League, Mbye has made significant contributions to teams such as the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, Wests Tigers, St George Illawarra Dragons, and St. Helens.

Hailing from Noosa, Mbye made a notable impression at Belmore, where he played nearly 100 matches for the Bulldogs during his five-year tenure before transferring to Concord in 2018. He served as captain of the Tigers from 2019 to 2020.

In 2022, he transitioned to Wollongong, taking on a utility role with the Red V for a season and a half before he was released early to pursue an opportunity in England.

After a successful three-season period at St Helens, Mbye returned to Australia to play for the Ipswich Jets in the QLD Cup in 2026.

During his time at the Jets, he not only shared co-captaincy but also took on a development manager role, promoting excellence both on and off the field.

The 33-year-old announced his retirement midway through the year, following a syndesmosis injury that ended his season, thereby closing the chapter on an esteemed career.

Mbye's exceptional versatility was evident when he made his State of Origin debut in 2019, participating in all three matches of the series and starting the crucial decider in the centre position.

In his rookie NRL season in 2014, he stepped up to the hooker position for the Grand Final when captain Michael Ennis was sidelined due to injuries.
