NRL CEO rejects Bennett's Bunker complaints as 'ridiculous'

NRL boss makes call on sanctioning Wayne Bennett after 'ridiculous' criticism of Bunker

NRL chief Andrew Abdo has hit back at Wayne Bennett's criticism of the Bunker review system, labeling it as "ridiculous" and affirming that technology in the game is here to stay.

Bennett, the seasoned coach, was not happy with a call that went against Trai Fuller in the Dolphins' recent loss to Newcastle, ultimately costing them a spot in the NRL finals.

During the match at McDonald Jones Stadium, Fuller seemed to have scored a try in the first half.

However, the Bunker determined that Dolphins' player Connelly Lemuelu obstructed Knights' player Brodie Jones, preventing him from reaching the try line.

While Lemuelu did make contact with Jack Cogger, Bennett argued that it was the Knights' defenders who initiated the contact and Fuller's try should have been awarded.

In a post-match tirade, Bennett expressed his frustration over the decision, highlighting the potential impact of such calls in crucial finals games.

He emphasized the defensive choices made by the Knights' players, insisting that the try should have been allowed.

Abdo, on the other hand, stood firm in his support of the Bunker and its accuracy in making calls, asserting that it gets decisions right "99% of the time."
