NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo has stated that discussions regarding the Super League investment are progressing, emphasizing a focus on "partnership" rather than a "takeover."
As speculation continues regarding NRL's role in Super League, aimed at enhancing financial stability in the northern hemisphere, Abdo traveled to the UK for direct discussions.
"We really believe in the globalisation of Rugby League. This is a great game and we want to take it to as many people as possible. We want to win as many fans as possible." He remarked on the potential for collaboration between northern and southern hemispheres, noting a significant connection during recent events.
Abdo highlighted the necessity of good ideas, capital, and execution for successful ventures, mentioning the Australian Rugby League Commission's role in decision-making for the game's welfare.
"We're still exploring. This trip has been about listening, learning and being cognizant of the fact this is a complex stakeholder landscape," he noted, indicating room for further development in mutual objectives.
"It's not about an offer. This is about a partnership where we can collaborate on how we can grow the game." He acknowledged the vital role of sustainable investment in clubs to ensure a vibrant competition.
