Fans and players show their support for John Cartwright in response to his Hull FC termination

Hull FC CEO Discusses Coaching Changes

Richie Myler, CEO of Hull FC, has explained the club's approach to John Cartwright's exit, revealing that Steve McNamara will step into the head coach role in 2027.

While Cartwright was originally given a three-year contract to lead until 2027, Hull decided to conclude his tenure at the end of the 2026 season instead.

The club hoped Cartwright would guide the team for the current season before McNamara, a local favorite, officially took over.

On April 7, Hull announced Cartwright's departure at the season's conclusion, leading to a press conference where he expressed feeling "betrayed" and "disrespected," due to a lack of clarity on the decision.

After a challenging match against St Helens, Cartwright received a standing ovation as he departed, with players showing their support in solidarity.

Following these events, Hull confirmed Cartwright's head coaching duties were over, though he continues as an employee, with McNamara now set to lead long-term.
