The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles claimed their fifth first grade premiership 36 years ago today, with Coach Bob Fulton leading the team to victory.

The Sea Eagles defeated the Canberra Raiders 18-8 in the grand final, which took place at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground.

Paul Vautin captained the team during this memorable season.

Manly had a dominant year in 1987, finishing as minor premiers and recording a remarkable 12-game winning streak from rounds 9 to 21.

In the major semi-final, they secured a 10-6 victory over the Eastern Suburbs Roosters before going on to defeat the Raiders in the grand final.

This win marked their fifth premiership title, following their previous successes in 1972, 1973, 1976, and 1978.

Since then, the Sea Eagles have gone on to win first grade premierships in 1996, 2008, and 2011, bringing their total number of major titles to eight.
