The Melbourne Storm faces anxious moments as they await the results of scans for Harry Grant, their captain, who may have sustained a serious hamstring injury on Friday night.
In a thrilling match against the South Sydney Rabbitohs, the Storm ultimately lost 28-26, but the most significant setback occurred when Grant limped off the field in the 37th minute, jeopardizing Melbourne's playoff hopes.
After making a run from dummy half, Grant felt discomfort and promptly headed to the sidelines and then to the locker room for evaluation.
While the exact diagnosis and severity of the injury remain unclear, Grant's history of hamstring issues raises concerns that he may face an extended period away from the field.
"I'm not really sure initially. I've had a couple of hamstrings over the years, and it sort of feels pretty similar," Grant mentioned during his post-match interview on Nine.
"Going off that, fingers crossed it's not too long. I guess you get scans, do a bit more testing, and go from there. Initially, it's always a bit ginger, so you don't want to push it too much and gauge too much on the testing.
"I don't know fully (the timeline). Going off what I had last time, it was probably three to four weeks.
"It's all speculation right now, I just have to wait until I get a scan and go from there. But it's all part of the game, isn't it?"
As one of the team's key players, the potential absence of Grant comes as a heavy blow, and the club will likely count on Trent Toleau to step in for the Queensland Maroon hooker.
