The NSW Blues have announced that five-eighth Mitchell Moses will be unable to participate in the State of Origin opener on Wednesday night due to a hamstring injury.

Moses underwent scans after injuring himself during a training session on the Central Coast on Monday.

"NSW Blues five-eighth Mitchell Moses has today been ruled out of Game One of the State of Origin Series," the NSW Rugby League stated.

"Scans this morning revealed a minor hamstring strain."

In his absence, Canberra Raiders' Ethan Strange will fill in as the starting five-eighth, marking his debut in the State of Origin arena. Additionally, Canterbury's Matt Burton has been included in the Blues' 230-man squad.

Moses has previously represented the Blues in six Origin matches, making his debut during Game III of the 2021 series.

Last year, he delivered an impressive performance in the series opener, leading the Blues to an 18-6 victory against the Maroons at Lang Park in Brisbane.

However, due to injury, he was absent for the next two matches, which resulted in Queensland winning both and reclaiming the shield.
