Canberra's Strange shuts down Roosters link

An injury to Mitchell Moses has given Ethan Strange a chance to make his Australian Kangaroos debut, with the 22-year-old called into Kevin Walters' squad for its third match.

Strange was holidaying in Phuket with his partner when he received the call-up.

"I'm with the Raiders and I'm loving it with Ricky [Stuart]," he said to media in Townsville on Thursday.

His comments came amid speculation linking him to the Sydney Roosters, who withdrew their contract extension offer to Sam Walker on Monday, putting his future at the club in doubt.

Strange was mentioned as a possible replacement, having previously been in the Roosters' pathways. His father, John, coaches the club's NRLW team, and his sister plays in its second row.

Strange's Raiders contract runs until the end of 2028, and he currently has no special circumstances allowing him to speak with another club.

He rejected the rumours, saying he did not know where they had come from and was happy in Canberra.
