Wests Tigers have revived their finals aspirations in the Jersey Flegg Cup with a strong second-half performance, defeating the second-placed Canberra Raiders 25-14 at Lidcombe Oval amidst wet conditions.
Although the Tigers faced limited possession at the start, they fought back midway through the first half when Logan Brookes scored from close range. Harry Delaney then added another try in the 32nd minute, evening the score at 10-all as they headed into halftime.
After the break, the Tigers intensified their efforts. Captain Brenden Naicori scored in the corner, giving the home team their first lead. Tino Tavana then delivered an impressive acrobatic try from a long pass by Max Liles, extending the Tigers' lead to 18-10.
The Raiders attempted a comeback with a stunning corner try from the Tuialii brothers with 13 minutes remaining, but the Tigers clinched the victory with a well-executed play featuring Tavana and Max Taotua. Liles capped off the match with a late field goal, solidifying their 25-14 triumph.
This victory keeps the Tigers in seventh place on the ladder and sustains their hopes for a Top 5 finish, while the Raiders drop to third, left regretting a missed chance in challenging weather.
