Legendary broadcaster David Morrow, known for his iconic calls at numerous Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games, as well as his countless rugby league broadcasts, has passed away at the age of 71.

The broadcast giant lost his battle with brain cancer, which he had bravely fought since being diagnosed before Christmas.

Morrow, who was forced to retire from his duties at 2GB in order to undergo treatment, would have been in the commentary box for the State of Origin decider if not for his illness.

Just last week, Morrow was honored with induction into rugby league's media hall of fame, a well-deserved recognition of his contributions to the sport over the years.

His colleague Ray Hadley broke the news of Morrow's passing, expressing his sadness at the loss of his mate and fellow broadcaster.

It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to a true legend of the airwaves.

Rest in peace, David Morrow.
