The Brisbane Tigers, currently participating in the QLD Cup, are gearing up to pursue the NRL license, aiming to become Queensland's fifth NRL team.
With the introduction of the Perth Bears next year and the Papua New Guinea Chiefs expected by 2028, discussions have begun about the NRL's next expansion into the Sunshine State.
The league aims to establish a foothold in Queensland's south-western corridor, especially with concerns over the AFL's intentions in the region.
As reported by the Courier Mail earlier this month, ARL Commissioner Peter V'landys is set to meet with Queensland Rugby League officials to explore these expansion plans.
Believing they are the ideal candidate for the next team, the Tigers highlight their significant contributions to the RISE development program, asserting they possess the necessary foundations to evolve into a robust NRL franchise.
Historically known as 'Easts', the Tigers have seen numerous players, including Cameron Munster, Cody Walker, Christian Welch, Felise Kaufusi, and Scott Drinkwater, rise to fame while wearing their iconic orange and black colors.
As Brisbane's NRL market continues to grow, following the successful debut of the Dolphins franchise, the Courier Mail indicates the Tigers are keen on competing at the highest level.
Tigers president Keith Phillips stated that their strong community engagement and commitment to junior development strengthen their case for becoming the 20th NRL side.
"Brisbane Tigers have been following with interest recent commentary about another NRL licence for Queensland," Phillips said.
"The Brisbane Tigers remain determined to play a vital role in securing a fifth team for Queensland, located in Queensland where the game is embedded in the culture and supported across the diverse and growing communities."
