Despite the optimism, the Sharks struggled to find their rhythm early on in the season, with injuries taking their toll on the squad.

Rogers, battling persistent knee issues, knew that the end was near for his illustrious career.

His teammates rallied around him, determined to send the Immortal off with a win in his final match.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs proved too strong on the day, winning the match 18-6 and leaving the Shark faithful with heavy hearts.

As Rogers walked off the field for the last time, there wasn't a dry eye in the house as fans bid farewell to a true legend of the game.

Despite the sad ending to his Sharks career, Steve 'Sludge' Rogers will always be remembered as one of the all-time greats of Australian rugby league.
