Five Players Charged After NRL Matches

Multiple Players Charged by MRC After Sunday Matches

The NRL's Match Review Committee has taken action against five players following the action-packed triple-header on Sunday.

During the 2 pm showdown between the Brisbane Broncos and St George Illawarra Dragons at Suncorp Stadium, four players faced charges for their on-field conduct.

From the Broncos, Adam Reynolds and Brendan Piakura both received a Grade 1 dangerous contact charge. The team captain incurs a $700 fine for this first offence, with a potential $1000 penalty if he contests the charge and fails. Piakura, however, faces an $1800 fine with an early plea, being his second offence.

On the Dragons' side, twin brothers Ryan and Toby Couchman were also reported during the match.

In the 13th minute, Ryan was penalized for dangerous contact against Payne Haas, leading to a grade 1 charge. By pleading early, he can expect a fine of $1800, although if he contests the charge and loses, it may escalate to $2500.

Toby Couchman will face a $1500 fine for his shoulder charge against Va'a Semu in the match's 71st minute. Should he contest this charge and be unsuccessful, the fine could rise to $2000.

In the day's later match where the Dragons celebrated their first win of the season, the Raiders faced the Cowboys in Canberra. There, Cowboys forward Wiremu Greig was charged with a grade 1 careless high tackle against Zac Hosking.

Greig's fine stands at $1000 with an early plea, or it could increase by another $500 if the panel finds him guilty.
