Wayne Bennett has come to the defense of South Sydney's $25 million training facilities amid concerns stemming from Latrell Mitchell's calf injury.
Mitchell's injury adds to the list of teammates like Campbell Graham and Talanoa Penitani, who are also facing soft-tissue issues this season.
David Fifita's hamstring problem kept him out for over a month, while Adam Elliott and Brandon Smith have struggled with calf concerns.
Following their move from Redfern to Matraville in 2023, a review of the training surface was done, especially given last season's similar injury patterns, yet nothing alarming was discovered.
When questioned about the potential impact of their training pitch on the team's injuries, Bennett expressed his frustration.
"No, no … you say a lot of soft-tissue injuries. I've got guys with broken thumbs, I've got guys with broken forearms, so they're not soft-tissue injuries," he stated ahead of the upcoming match against Parramatta.
"No, it's nothing to do with [that]. You can look for all the myths that you want, but the bottom line is it's just a part of what we do.
"We train, a lot of time running, a lot of time playing, and we have these moments where we get the injuries and we're not the only club with them."
Despite the numerous injuries, the Rabbitohs recently secured a significant victory over the defending champions, Brisbane, before a bye kept them in seventh place.
Bennett urged his resilient squad to intensify their efforts as they approach the finals.
