The Wests Tigers experienced a significant setback following their 42-point defeat to the Cronulla Sharks on Sunday afternoon.
However, the scoreline might not be their most pressing concern, as the team grapples with a double injury crisis impacting two key players.
Adam Doueihi, a player frequently mentioned as a potential State of Origin selection, suffered a shoulder injury while scoring in the first half.
In addition, second-rower Samuela Fainu also left the game early due to a foot injury.
Benji Marshall indicated that both players require scans, revealing that while there's no current timeline for Fainu's return, Doueihi is likely to be sidelined for at least a month due to a dislocated shoulder.
"His shoulder dislocated and they put it back in, so he'll get a scan tomorrow," Marshall stated in his post-match press conference.
"I'm unsure of the time, but we've had a couple of those, so it's probably around four weeks, maybe six."
He added, "Samuela has a foot issue, so he's gonna get a scan tomorrow, so not sure on that one."
If Doueihi's recovery proceeds optimally, he could return in four weeks, meaning he would miss the upcoming State of Origin Game 1, set for May 27 in Sydney.
Although he has yet to make an Origin appearance, his recent performances and the growing list of injured New South Wales players had many believing he was a strong contender for a spot on the six-man bench.
