Connor Watson, a utility player for the Sydney Roosters, is reportedly poised to join the PNG Chiefs through the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Watson recently visited the PNG Chiefs facilities in Port Moresby over the weekend and returned to Australia on Monday. It's believed that the club has offered him a two-year contract.

Despite being contracted with the Roosters until the end of 2027, the club is open to letting him go if he secures a better opportunity elsewhere.

The 2025 State of Origin player has faced challenges in pinning down a consistent position with the Roosters and is said to be eager to explore new prospects.

While the Roosters are not pushing him out, Sydney Morning Herald journalist Adrian Proszenko shared on 2GB's Offload podcast that both Watson and his partner were impressed by their experience during the tour.

"Connor Watson only came back from PNG last night, so he had the tour, he had the red carpet there for him," Proszenko noted.

"Michael Chammas [Chiefs director of football] wasn't there, it was Lorna McPherson the CEO who showed him around and also Connor Watson's partner."

"She is a model. They basically have to decide if they go over there, will she be able to continue doing her work or will she have to fly in and fly out."

"What I've been told is that they were impressed with what they saw and that there is a two-year deal there on the table for him."
