Warriors Lose Boyd to Season-Ending Injury

The New Zealand Warriors have officially announced that Tanah Boyd's season has come to an end due to an ACL injury sustained during the club's magic round victory over the Brisbane Broncos.

This unfortunate incident occurred in just the seventh minute of the match when Boyd experienced a non-contact injury to his knee.

Following on-field assessments by club medical staff, it was quickly surmised that the injury was likely an ACL tear, and subsequent scans have confirmed these fears.

Generally, recovery from an ACL injury takes anywhere from nine to twelve months, and Boyd will be on a tight timeline to return in time for the opening game of 2027.

Boyd has established himself as the Warriors' top choice at number seven, significantly outplaying Luke Metcalf, who is now set to leave the club at the end of this season.

While Metcalf was anticipated to take over for Boyd, he is notably absent from the Auckland squad for their upcoming match against the St George Illawarra Dragons on Saturday evening at Kogarah.

Instead, Te Maire Martin will start at halfback alongside Chanel Harris-Tavita in that matchup.

The Warriors have also indicated that a surgery date for Boyd has not yet been determined.

On a positive note, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has been included in the reserves for the Dragons game and has been declared fit to return from a shoulder injury, likely rejoining the starting lineup.

Additionally, Haizyn Mellars and Rocco Berry are expected to be available by next week, but Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad's return remains uncertain.
