The Brisbane Broncos have acknowledged that they let down retiring star Adam Reynolds during his farewell lap on Thursday night, prior to the club's last home match of 2026 against the Melbourne Storm.
The club faced significant criticism for allowing an advertisement segment to air while Reynolds made his farewell circuit around the field.
Despite battling to return for the season's closing weeks, Reynolds ultimately sidestepped playing due to injury. He has recently stated on air that he holds no grievances against coach Michael Maguire or the organization, though the backlash has persisted.
"It was an unfortunate set of circumstances on Thursday night. We would have loved nothing more (than) to honour and celebrate someone that is really important to the football club, has been a great contributor to the game," said CEO Dave Donaghy at a press event on Monday.
"Unfortunately, we made some calls that, we would love to have the time again. It was a missed opportunity."
Reports have also indicated that the video screens being offline for 44 minutes contributed to the situation, forcing the Broncos to rush their pre-game activities to honor Reynolds, keep fans engaged, and meet sponsor commitments.
"Thursday was disappointing. We hire Suncorp Stadium and pay a lot of money to do so," Donaghy noted.
"For big screens to be out for 44 minutes meant there were some challenges with the team to put a show back together."
The organization has been focused on damage control as questions surrounding Maguire's ability to continue leading the Red Hill-based team have emerged.
