Walters Set for Contract Extension with Broncos

The Brisbane Broncos are close to finalizing a contract extension for Billy Walters, ensuring his stay in Brisbane for an additional two years.

After suffering an ACL injury during the elimination final last season on their path to premiership success, Walters is reportedly set for an extension that would keep him at the club until 2028, according to the Courier Mail.

Having been sidelined for nine months, he is approaching a comeback to the NRL, with Cory Paix and Ben Hunt currently stepping in as hookers for the 2026 season.

Next weekend, he will be taking the field for the Souths Logan Magpies, the Broncos feeder club, marking his first match back with the goal of returning to the NRL on July 4 against the Cronulla Sharks.

Concerns had surfaced regarding his age of 33 and the salary cap implications, which led many to believe he might not be part of the Broncos' future plans after the current contract expires at year's end.

"My manager caught up with Dave (Donaghy, Broncos CEO) last week and I heard it was pretty positive. Hopefully, we can get something sorted soon," Walters shared with the Courier Mail.

"With Perth and PNG coming in, there's more demand for players and hopefully it opens up more positions at the Broncos."

"I'm not putting too much pressure on myself. I just want to come in and do my job and help the team however I can."

"It's crazy to think it was eight or nine months ago we were playing Canberra when I did my knee."
