Cowboys Coach Payten Extends Contract to 2028

The North Queensland Cowboys have officially announced that coach Todd Payten has signed a contract extension, ensuring his position in Townsville until at least the conclusion of 2028.

This new agreement means that Payten will surpass Paul Green, becoming the longest-serving coach in Cowboys history.

Under Payten's leadership, the Cowboys experienced a remarkably successful 2022 season, culminating in a place in the preliminary finals, where they played at home for the first time.

He also guided the team back into the finals series in 2024, advancing to the second week of the finals.

Excited about re-signing, Payten emphasized his dedication to securing a premiership for the region.

"North Queensland is home for my family and I'm thrilled to be able to extend for another two seasons," he conveyed in a Cowboys statement.

"I love the club and the region because of the people within it."

"I am grateful to be leading this group of young men and we are committed to bringing the second premiership to North Queensland."

Currently, the Cowboys are positioned in ninth place, but with the competitiveness of this season, their eight victories put them just one win behind the Warriors, who hold the second spot.
