After the 38-18 defeat to the Parramatta Eels on Sunday afternoon, I found myself oddly excited as a Cronulla Sharks supporter.
This wasn't due to the team's performance, which was, at best, a three out of ten.
I wasn't looking ahead to the future either, as the season seems to be slipping away.
My excitement came from seeing coach Craig Fitzgibbon visibly punching a computer monitor during the second half in clear frustration.
The normally stoic Fitzgibbon had finally reached his breaking point with the team's play. His long-standing trust in underperforming players had been tested beyond limits.
Finally, I thought, the changes we, as fans, have demanded for two months might finally take place.
Then came the press conference.
When asked about the incident, Fitzgibbon responded, "You'd hit the screen if you were down 7-1 on penalties as well."
He didn't address the fact that sluggish Tom Hazelton was sent off for a lazy tackle that could have seriously injured a Parramatta player.
