Toia Aims for Queensland Origin Spot vs Shibasaki

QLD Jersey up for grabs

Roosters centre Rob Toia aims to secure a Queensland Origin spot by outshining teammate Gehamat Shibasaki on Saturday night.

The pair will clash at Allianz Stadium, as the Roosters face the Broncos in an exciting early-season match-up.

Beyond just competition points, both players are eager to return to the Origin stage after surprising debuts last season.

Star fullback Reece Walsh is making a comeback from a facial injury, while lock Pat Carrigan returns from suspension.

Although the Roosters expect a fierce challenge from the Broncos, Toia has a message for them ahead of the game.

He is part of a strong right side that includes Mark Nawaqanitawase, Siua Wong, and Daly Cherry-Evans.

A year ago, it would have been hard to imagine Shibasaki and Toia both representing Queensland.

Shibasaki was not even expected to secure a spot in the Broncos backline, let alone play for his state.
