Smith Faces Another Setback with Injury

Brandon Smith's struggles with injuries continue, as a timeline has been established for his recent calf injury sustained during the South Sydney Rabbitohs' victory over the Melbourne Storm on Anzac Day.

Smith had shown promise in his return performances against the Raiders and the Dragons, following another calf injury that had sidelined him during the preseason.

This latest setback involves the same calf that caused him to miss several weeks earlier in the year, prompting coach Wayne Bennett to address the situation regarding the Kiwi international.

"He's pretty disappointed, to be honest with you, he's out for another month," Bennett shared with the media on Saturday.

"He loves to play and he brings a lot to the team. But we all have the disappointments so he's got to handle it."

In Smith's absence, Adam Elliot will step in, having been managing a calf issue himself during the season's early stages.

Elliot had a tough time last year with the Newcastle Knights due to injuries that limited his playtime, but he has since signed a one-year deal with the Rabbitohs to strengthen their forward lineup.

He will have the opportunity to showcase his abilities in the NRL once again, marking his return since round 12 of last year.

"He kept ringing me ... He wanted to be here, so I'm happy for him to be. He's been very good," Bennett remarked.
