Ricky Stuart is poised to rely on a young halfback as the Raiders aim to replicate last season's surprising success, which saw them clinch the minor premiership.

The pivotal choice is selecting a replacement for Jamal Fogarty, with two promising players in the mix.

Coach Stuart has 21-year-old Ethan Sanders and 19-year-old Coby Black, who joined from Brisbane in December, as his main contenders.

Both athletes are at the early stages of their careers and will need time to adjust to the professional level.

Currently, Sanders is expected to take the No.7 jersey while Black recovers from a neck injury sustained early in pre-season.

Alongside Sanders, five-eighth Ethan Strange will step up in the halves, also taking on added playmaking duties after a strong 2025 campaign that culminated in a spot on the Kangaroos Ashes squad.

The duo will benefit from playing behind one of the most formidable packs in the NRL, with Joe Tapine and Josh Papalii leading the charge, complemented by Hudson Young, Corey Horsburgh, and Morgan Smithies who will add their own intensity to the forward lineup.

As the Raiders prepare for 2026, their young talents and experienced pack will be essential in their quest to build on last year's achievements.
