Shane Flanagan, the former head coach of St George Illawarra Dragons, has expressed skepticism regarding Zac Lomax's potential move to the PNG Chiefs in 2028.
Recently, Lomax has become a notable target for the Chiefs.
The franchise has already secured four signings, including winger Alex Johnston, but they are actively seeking additional players before the November 1 deadline.
Both Joseph Manu, currently playing rugby in Japan, and Lomax, who is with the Western Force, have visited the Chiefs' facilities in recent days.
If signed, they would join a promising backline consisting of Johnston and Jarome Luai at five-eighth.
The Chiefs have also acquired English prop Matty Lees and Sydney Roosters utility Connor Watson.
While Luai is set to have a brief stint with the Eels next season, Watson is also making a similar move to the Dragons.
Lomax, who previously played for the Parramatta Eels, has recently rejected an offer from the Melbourne Storm in favor of fulfilling his contract in Perth. However, he may consider a return to rugby league afterward.
Flanagan, who has coached Lomax in the past, shared his thoughts on Triple M Radio, asserting that Lomax might not be suited for PNG.
"Lomax, I don't know. He just got engaged, his partner is having a baby soon, he is a long way away from Temora where he could just shoot home for a weekend and all that sort of stuff," Flanagan remarked.
"He is pretty close to his family members. I know he has gone to Perth [with rugby union] and is away from them, but I just don't know."
