Rabbitohs' Mamouzelos Set for Early Departure

Peter Mamouzelos, the South Sydney Rabbitohs' dummy half, seems poised for an early exit despite having a year left on his contract.

His dwindling role under coach Wayne Bennett signals that a Super League gap year and an adventure in Port Moresby may be the best path forward.

Once seen as one of the top young dummy halves in the sport, the 25-year-old's current situation is puzzling.

The club had previously let Damien Cook go, believing Mamouzelos would be their future star.

However, he has only participated in 47 NRL games, with a mere eight appearances this season, all as a bench player.

His last two games were in Rounds 9 and 12, which means it has been over a month since he last played in the NRL.

Early in the year, Mamouzelos saw some game time while Brandon Smith was sidelined.

However, the signing of Bronson Garlick from the Melbourne Storm at the end of 2025 further diminished his prospects at Maroubra.

The Rabbitohs now have both Smith and Garlick secured as options for the dummy half position next season, along with Jayden Sullivan who can also fill that role.

South Sydney aims to avoid a situation similar to the Brisbane Broncos, who might include five dummy halves in their Top 30 if Billy Walters re-signs.

According to reports from Wide of World Sports' The Mole, Mamouzelos is expected to leave at the end of this season.

He may receive an early release to join the English Super League with former Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou at the London Broncos and later potentially link with the PNG Chiefs in the NRL.
