Paulo backs Luai, Leniu at Parramatta

Junior Paulo has backed Jarome Luai and Spencer Leniu to make an impact at Parramatta in 2027, while preparing with them for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup.

Speaking at the World Cup launch in Sydney, Paulo described Luai as misunderstood and defended the playmaker amid criticism over his move from Wests Tigers.

"He hasn't done any wrong. It's just one of those things where there's always going to be someone who's opinionated."

"Luckily for 'Rome', nothing fazes him."

"There's a reason why he's won four comps, so that's the experience we want to bring at Parramatta."

"We're looking forward to it."

Luai signed a 12-month Eels deal in late July after the Tigers released him from his contract's final year; he had opted out of its last two seasons to join the PNG Chiefs for their 2028 debut.

His Chiefs contract requires sponsorship appearances in Papua New Guinea, including when he plays for Parramatta.

Leniu, released from his final Roosters season, has signed with the Eels through 2030 after winning a premiership.

Paulo is also set to sign a one-year Eels contract for 2027 and has been offered a coaching role after retirement, News Corp reported.
