Parramatta face fight to retain Samrani

Parramatta Eels outside back to test open market

Parramatta are keen to retain Jordan Samrani, but the outside back will test the open market from November 1 and is not guaranteed to stay beyond 2028.

The former Canterbury Bulldogs player had the best season of his career in 2026 and could draw interest as the number of off-contract players grows.

The Perth Bears and PNG Chiefs are set to arrive over the next two seasons, expanding the market across all positions.

The Port Moresby-based Chiefs are unlikely to pursue Samrani, having already signed several outside backs. The Bears and other NRL clubs may make a bid for him.

After missing matches in the first half of the season, Samrani became a bright spot late in Parramatta's difficult campaign.

He scored eight tries in 15 games, with one try assist, 32 tackle busts, eight line breaks and an average of 141 metres per match.

Parramatta recently retained Samrani's centre partner Brian Kelly ahead of November 1 and also want Samrani to stay.

The club's only other identified likely target after November 1 is Blaize Talagi, who is out of favour at the foot of the mountains. Parramatta are also expected to seek new signings as they try to climb from the bottom of the table.
