The Papua New Guinea Chiefs have signed another notable NRL talent in Connor Watson, who is set to join the franchise in 2028.

This Sydney Roosters star adds significant experience to the new team, boasting over ten years of first-grade play, a State of Origin history, and a reputation for versatility.

Watson's ability to play both hooker and lock enhances his appeal to the Chiefs, making him an important asset for their inaugural season.

On Thursday night, Code Sports confirmed Watson's agreement to join the Chiefs, following in the footsteps of earlier recruits Jarome Luai and Alex Johnston.

The player visited Port Moresby with his partner earlier this month, prompting increased speculation about his future and ties with the new franchise.

With 177 NRL games under his belt from his time with the Sydney Roosters and Newcastle Knights, Watson has also represented the NSW Blues five times.

Although he is contracted with the Roosters until the end of 2027, Watson has received permission to explore options, paving the way for a possible interim arrangement before officially joining the PNG team.

St George Illawarra, Wests Tigers, and Canterbury are reportedly interested in acquiring his services for the 2027 season.

The specifics regarding the duration and financials of Watson's deal with the Chiefs are not yet publicly disclosed, as neither the player nor the club has confirmed the signing as of now.
