Knights Start 2028 Contract Talks with Players

The Newcastle Knights are set to begin discussions regarding contract extensions with several players, notably the impressive winger Dominic Young.

Alongside Young, Jacob Saifiti, Bradman Best, and Dylan Lucas are also under contract until 2027 but have the option to speak with other clubs starting November 1 this year, regarding potential 2028 deals.

Young's representative aims to ensure that a fair agreement is reached, as reported by the Newcastle Herald, indicating that preliminary talks have already commenced between the involved parties.

Michael Cincotta, Young's manager, communicated with the Newcastle-based news outlet, expressing his anticipation for an offer from the Knights in the coming weeks.

"Things are in motion and we're expecting we'll get something in the next two weeks," Cincotta stated to the Newcastle Herald.

"I've spoken to Sully [head of recruitment Peter O'Sullivan] and Peter Parr [chief executive] and it's all been positive. But we haven't seen anything yet."

Young prefers to stay in Newcastle after leaving for the Sydney Roosters at the end of 2023, a move prompted by what Cincotta described as a "low-ball" offer for his services.

His tenure at Bondi didn't allow him to reach his peak performance, leading to his swift return to the Knights after a season and a half, where he's thriving with 14 tries in 2026 on the right flank.

"He didn't want to leave back then either but the club low-balled him. I think at the time they thought 'we helped grow him and should be rewarded so we deserve a discount. Hopefully, they don't make the same mistake twice," Cincotta concluded.
