Eight players have received charges from the NRL's match review committee following a tumultuous Friday night during the Anzac Round.
A total of nine charges were issued across the double-header, which featured the North Queensland Cowboys' victory over the Cronulla Sharks in Townsville, and the Brisbane Broncos' win against the Canterbury Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium.
The players facing the most anxiety are those accused of tripping.
Both Stephen Crichton and Ezra Mam have been given Grade 1 charges; since each is facing a first offence on their track record, they can accept a $1000 fine by pleading guilty early. If they contest the charges and lose, the penalty would rise to $1500.
Harry Hayes, who served time in the sin bin during the first half of his team's loss to Brisbane for a trip, received a more severe Grade 2 charge.
If he pleads guilty early, he will miss one game; fighting the charge could result in a two-match suspension.
In another instance, Matt Burton managed to avoid suspension for a dangerous throw on Kotoni Staggs but received a Grade 1 charge due to a second offence, carrying a $2500 fine or the risk of two matches if contested.
Additionally, Reuben Cotter faced two separate charges: one for dangerous contact and another for a careless high tackle, both graded as Grade 1. He has the option to pay $1000 for each offence or risk an additional $500 if he decides to contest.
Finally, Reed Mahoney received a Grade 1 contrary conduct charge against Siosifa Talakai and will face the same penalties as Cotter's charges.
