Warriors Discuss Contract Extension for Boyd

The New Zealand Warriors are reportedly in discussions to extend the contract of the talented halfback, Tanah Boyd.

During much of 2025, Boyd found himself on the periphery of the Warriors squad, overshadowed by the impressive performances of established halfback Luke Metcalf.

However, an ACL injury to Metcalf late last year opened the door for Boyd, and while he faced some challenges toward the end of the season, his early 2026 form has been outstanding.

Leading up to Round 8's Anzac Day match against the Dolphins in Wellington, the Warriors have only lost two games-the ones in which Metcalf returned from injury and played at five-eighth.

Boyd's consistent performance has prompted negotiations about his future, and although a deal is yet to be finalized, journalist Brent Read suggests a renewal is likely, as Boyd has shown no inclination to leave Auckland.

"I think Tanah Boyd wants to stay at the Warriors," Read stated on Triple M's NRL Daily. "That's his preference, and that's who they're negotiating with at the moment.

"He will only move if that deal won't get done."

Rumors have circulated about potential interest from other clubs, including the Perth Bears and some Sydney-based teams, eyeing Boyd as he begins to showcase his considerable potential this season.

It remains unclear what Boyd's re-signing would mean for Metcalf, who has also recently extended his contract.
