Ponga Commits to Knights Until 2030

The Newcastle Knights have made a stunning announcement that will significantly impact the NRL scene, securing Kalyn Ponga's services until at least 2030.

The talented fullback has been the subject of speculation surrounding other NRL teams and had even pondered a venture into rugby union with aspirations of playing for the All Blacks.

However, following the Knights' impressive beginning to the 2026 NRL season, Ponga opted not to enter the November 1 free agency period and instead signed a three-year contract extension, ensuring his stay with the Knights through to 2030.

This deal solidifies Ponga's role alongside Dylan Brown, reinforcing the club's core leadership for years ahead and nearly sealing his legacy in the Hunter region.

At 28, Ponga will be 32 when the new agreement concludes.

"Kalyn is an elite player and an elite person and re-signing him is massive for us," said head coach Justin Holbrook regarding the new contract.

"His leadership within this group is exceptional. He sets the standard every single day, in training, in games, in the way he carries himself, and the players in this squad look to him."

"That kind of influence is invaluable as we continue to build toward the goals we have set for this club. He is one of the leading players in the NRL and he is the. I could not be more pleased."

As a million-dollar asset, Ponga will face significant expectations to bring a premiership to Newcastle, particularly under the tutelage of Justin Holbrook, who has already garnered respect from the team in his early tenure.
