The Perth Bears have set their sights on a promising English prop as they gear up to strengthen their squad.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Matty Lees, a 28-year-old forward from St Helens, has attracted interest from multiple NRL clubs.
His stock has surged recently, particularly after showcasing his skills during the Ashes series against Australia, where he participated in all three matches.
Despite fracturing his eye socket prior to the first game, Lees persevered and played through the injury.
Currently, he is under contract with St Helens until the conclusion of the 2029 season, meaning his transition to the NRL depends on the club's willingness to grant an early release.
If the opportunity arises for a 2027 move, the Bears are poised to act swiftly.
The team has already explored potential signings from England as part of their strategy to carve out a distinct identity.
This season, Lees has played in three Super League matches, having previously dealt with a medial ligament injury in February.
Moreover, he has taken on leadership responsibilities as the club captain under new Head Coach, Paul Rowley.
Unfortunately, he was forced to leave the field just one minute into the Challenge Cup semi-final against Wigan Warriors, following a heavy knee collision with Wigan's Luke Thompson.
